Google Crafts Aluminum OS for Laptops, Tablets

Google is working on a new operating system called Aluminum that is specifically designed for use on laptops, mini-PCs, and tablets across various price categories. This new OS is based on the Android platform and is part of Google’s plan to merge Android and Chrome OS. The company’s president for the development of the Android ecosystem has confirmed this initiative during Google presentations and job postings.

One of the key features of Aluminum is its close integration with the Gemini AI services system. While ChromeOS will continue to co-exist with Aluminum in the short term, the long-term plan is for Aluminum to gradually replace ChromeOS. This shift is already evident in the recent releases of Android 15 and 16, which have introduced a desktop mode and have been optimized for use on devices with larger screens.
