StartWine-Launcher 412 Debuts for Windows Apps on Linux

Publishing release of the Startwine-Launcher 412 application, designed to allow users to run programs and games developed for the Windows platform on Linux systems. The primary aim of creating StartWine-Launcher was to streamline the process for beginners in setting up Wine prefixes, which are essential Windows libraries and dependencies needed to run Windows applications on Linux. The StartWine-Launcher code is written in Python and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. The interface is based on the GTK library.

Main changes:

  • The list of versions of Wine, dxvk, and vkd3d has been updated, including the addition of old versions of Wine staging and Proton Ge.
  • Added a feature to automatically create backup copies of saves, which will be generated every 5 days after closing the game or application.
  • Introduced fine-tuning options in the app_config configuration files for advanced users.
  • The display of pop-ups in OpenGL and Vulkan modes has been restored.
  • The default shader cache is now located in the “/home/user/.cache” directory.
  • Added a repository Huggingface for downloading and installing StartWine.
  • Changed the loading logic of Proton Ge to display it in the native Steam directory “/home/user/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d” upon loading into StartWine.
  • Fixed helper functions in sw_runlib.
  • Fixed automatic installation of EA Launcher.
  • Resolved issues with the StarWine update function via the GUI.
