The UBports project has introduced Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 and 20.04 OTA-11 firmware updates, which are based on Ubuntu package bases 24.04 and Ubuntu 20.04. UBports has taken over the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform after Canonical stopped supporting it. The project is also working on an experimental port of the desktop Unity 8, which has been renamed Lomiri.
The Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 update will soon be available for a variety of devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4/5, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, Oneplus 5/5T/6/6T, OnePlus Nord N10 5G/N100, Sony Xperia X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC / X3, Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro/Pro Max/9S, Volla Phone Quintus, Volla Tablet, Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen, Rabbit R1, and Xiaomi Redmi 9/9 Prime.
Some of the key changes in Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.1 and 20.04 OTA-11 include the addition of VoLTE support for Fairphone 4 and Volla Phone 22 devices. VoLTE refers to Voice over LTE, a technology for voice transmission over LTE networks. The update also reduces the first boot time after upgrading from the Ubuntu Touch 20.04 series to Ubuntu Touch 24.04. Additionally, 20.04 OTA-11 brings support for headsets with a USB-C interface and includes fixes for issues such as high CPU load during media file scanning, disappearing notifications, application crashes, Wi-Fi hotspot interruptions, and playback continuity after disconnecting a Bluetooth headset.
