Scribus 1.6.5, 1.7.1: Free Publishing Updates

Introduced release of a free package for document layout Scribus 1.6.5. The package provides tools for professional layout of printed materials, includes tools for generating PDF and supports working with separate color profiles, CMYK, spot colors and ICC. The program is written using the Qt toolkit and is supplied under the GPLv2+ license. Ready-made binary assemblies prepared for Linux (AppImage), macOS and Windows.

In version 1.6.5, scripting functions have been improved. Dependencies have been updated, including new versions of the poppler and podofo libraries. The PDF export system has improvements related to font rendering and export via script in Python. Resolved issues with the color picker and using light/dark appearance modes. The vulnerability associated with loading SVG images from external hosts has been fixed (CVE has not yet been assigned).

At the same time, was published Scribus 1.7.1 was released. Branch 1.7 is presented as experimental – after final stabilization and recognition of readiness for widespread implementation, a stable release of Scribus 1.8.0 will be formed on the basis of branch 1.7. The 1.7 branch is notable for its porting to Qt 6, support for a dark theme, the transfer of icons to SVG format, a new implementation of dockable toolbars, and a redesign of the color selection panel
