Presented is the release of CachyOS 251129 distribution, based on the Arch Linux package base and using a continuous update delivery model. The distribution is notable for its inclusion of optimizations to improve performance and the ability to install different desktop environments. In addition to the base KDE-based environment, GNOME, Xfce, i3WM, Wayfire, LXQT, OpenBox, Cinnamon, Cosmic, Niri, UKUI, LXDE, Mate, Budgie, Qtile, Hyprland and Sway are available for installation. The size of the installation iso image is 3.1 GB. Separately supplied are assemblies (2.8 GB) for wearable devices (Handheld Edition) with a GameMode-style interface and components for fans of computer games
Enabled by default in the distribution task scheduler BORE, optimized to reduce desktop latency and increase the priority of interactive processes. The kernel and packages are assembled with the inclusion of LTO optimizations (Link-Time Optimization) and the use of instructions available in processors based on x86-64-v3, x86-64-v4 and Zen4 microarchitectures. When building basic packages, PGO (Profile-Guided Optimization) or BOLT (Binary Optimization and Layout Tool) optimizations are additionally enabled. Btrfs, zfs, ext4, xfs and f2fs can be used as file systems.
Main changes:
- Support for screen reader orca and speech synthesizer espeak-ng has been added to the iso image and installer to simplify installation for users with visual impairments.
- The package includes the bcachefs-dkms package with a kernel module for Bcachefs
