4MLinux 50.0, a minimalistic user distribution that is not a fork from other projects and uses a graphical environment based on window manager JWM, has been released. 4MLinux can be used both as a Live environment for playing multimedia files and solving user problems, and as a system for disaster recovery and a platform for running mini-servers. You can download the prepared live image (x86_64, 1.9 GB) with a graphical environment and a stripped-down console assembly (x86_64, 16.2 MB) here.
In the new version, there are several updates and additions:
- Updated package versions include Mesa 25.1.7, BusyBox 1.37.0, Perl 5.42.0, Python 3.13.8, and Ruby 3.4.7. The new version also includes updated user applications like LibreOffice 25.8, AbiWord 3.0.6, GIMP 3.1.4, and more.
- Improved support for web cameras, including a barcode scanner Zbar and a camera output viewer V4L2 Viewer.
- New additions include a file manager EmelFM2, and games like uHexen2, 3D Tetris BlockOut II, and PySol.
- An add-on with the multimedia framework GPAC has also been added.
- There is now the ability to reproducibly build 4MLinux from source code.
