Red Hat has launched the distribution release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.1, along with an update to the previous branch – Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.7. Ready-made installation images are available for registered users of the Red Hat Customer Portal, while public iso images of CentOS Stream 10 can be used to evaluate functionality, along with free builds of RHEL for developers. The release caters to various architectures including x86_64, s390x, ppc64le, Aarch64, and RISC-V.
Following a 14-year support cycle, the RHEL 10 distribution will receive support until 2035 with an additional 4 years of extended paid support. Updates for RHEL 9 will be continued until the end of May 2032 and for RHEL 8 until 2029.
RHEL packages are exclusively available for Red Hat customers through a closed section of the site with a user agreement (EULA) that prohibits redistribution. The RHEL sources can be found in the CentOS Stream repository; however, they are not fully synchronized with RHEL. Other platforms like Rocky Linux, Oracle, and SUSE reproduce the sources of the RHEL release rpm packages within the OpenELA project.
Key changes in RHEL 10.1 include enabling post-quantum encryption algorithms by default in system cryptographic policies (crypto-policies). The OpenSSL library has been updated to version 3.5 with added support for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms and protocols like QUIC. Additionally, support for eDNS (Encrypted DNS) has been introduced, allowing the use of the DoT (DNS over TLS) protocol for encrypting DNS traffic.
