Introduced release of the free distribution OpenIndiana 2025.10, which replaced the OpenSolaris distribution, the development of which was discontinued by Oracle. OpenIndiana provides the user with a working environment built on the basis of a fresh slice of the code base of the Illumos project. The actual development of OpenSolaris technologies continues with the Illumos project, which develops the kernel, network stack, file systems, drivers, as well as a basic set of user system utilities and libraries. To download generated three types of iso images – server edition with console applications (1 GB), minimal assembly (498 MB) and assembly with the MATE graphical environment (2.2 GB).
Main changes in OpenIndiana 2025.10:
- Updated 1140 packages.
- Added several utilities written in Rust, including lsd, mergiraf, ripgrep and fd. Also added is a code editor Helix, written in Rust.
- Added several implementations (Traella and Swi) of interpreters and virtual machines for the Prolog language.
- Improved support for SunRay thin clients.
- Python branches 3.14 3.13, 3.12 and 3.9 are available. Updated versions of hundreds of packages for Python and Perl.
- Added packages for distributed storage Seaweedfs, garage and minio.
- Zabbix-server now supports systems with SPARC architecture.
