The latest release of the project Coreboot 25.09 has been published, aiming to provide a free alternative to proprietary firmware and BIOS. The project’s code is distributed under the GPLV2 license and the new version includes 684 changes made with the participation of 110 developers.
The main changes in this release include:
- Material board support for various devices including ASROCK SPC741D8-2L2T/BCM, gigabyte ga_h81m_d2w, HP 260 G1 DM, HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF/MT, HP Prodesk 600 G1 SFF, Lenovo ThinkPad T480/T480S, and 11 boards used in devices with Chrome OS or on Google servers.
- Improved loading of Spi Flash and Payload components, resulting in reduced boot time and accelerated unpacking of Payload components.
Support for asynchronous file downloads using SPI DMA for Intel Panther Lake platforms and optimization for FatCat devices, improving loading times. Addition of a new synchronization function and implementation of a queue of data transmission based on tokens in the Fast SPI DMA subsystem.
- Implementation of a loading mode detection feature to transmit critical information about the load on Payload components, including battery charging status.
- Enhanced MTRR control for video memory, reducing initiation time and simplifying code processing.
- Improvements in the AMDFWTool utility for AMD firmware and SMMStoretool for Secure Boot mode to enhance UEFI variables.
- Expansion of TPM support for various platforms with CRB TPM and improved FTPM integration.
