Published distribution Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka”, which is classified as intermediate releases, updates for which are formed within 9 months. Ready installation images created for Ubuntu, Ubuntu Server, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Studio, Xubuntu, UbuntuKylin (China edition), Ubuntu Unity, Edubuntu and Ubuntu Cinnamon.
Basic changes:
- Desktop updated to GNOME 49 release. Dropped support for X11-based GNOME session and left Only a Wayland-based session that uses XWayland to run X11 applications. Packages with X.org components and alternative desktop environments using X11 continue to be provided in the repositories.
- An interface for management has been added to the configurator app startup (Settings → Apps).
- GNOME’s fractional scaling options have been optimized to minimize blur.
- The terminal emulator’s monospace font size has been reduced to match the default font size in the interface
- Instead of the default Eye of GNOME image viewer, Loupe is used, which provides a lightweight interface and is optimized for quickly viewing images. To decode images, the glycin library is used, which uses sandbox isolation and is written in Rust.
