Release Of Zorin OS 18, Distribution For Users Accustomed To Windows Or MacOS

After 7 months of development published release of Linux distribution Zorin OS 18based on the Ubuntu 24.04 package base. The target audience of the distribution is novice users who are accustomed to working in Windows. To manage the design, the distribution offers a special configurator that allows you to give the desktop a look typical of different versions of Windows and macOS, and includes a selection of programs close to the programs that Windows users are accustomed to. The size of bootable iso images is 3.6 GB and 7.6 GB.

Zorin OS uses GNOME as its desktop base with set of its own add-ons and a panel based on Dash to Panel and Dash to Dock. To integrate your desktop with your smartphone, the Zorin Connect application (based on KDE Connect) is provided. In addition to packages in deb format and Ubuntu repositories, support for Flatpak, AppImage and Snap formats is enabled by default, with the ability to install programs from the Flathub and Snap Store directories.

In the new version:

  • The default theme has been updated. More rounded shapes were used, the darkened background of the buttons in the menu was removed, lighter colors were used for some elements and the background saturation was increased.

  • Floating style is enabled by default bottom panel with rounded corners. The button for navigating through open windows has been converted to a desktop indicator, making it easier to switch between tasks.

  • By default, the new manager is enabled for mosaic layout of windows, allowing you to do without memorizing complex keyboard combinations. Simply drag the window to the top of the screen and select the desired layout in the pop-up window that appears. It is possible to create your own tiled layouts, use automatic layout and change the behavior of the tiled mode (Zorin Appearance → Windows → Advanced Window Tiling).
