The open software competition Open OS Challenge 2025 has started, the participants of which are asked to solve problems in the field of system software, administration and development for Linux. The competition is held by the community of developers of the Linux distribution OpenScaler, the company Sberbank Technologies (SberTech), the GitVerse service and the ANO Center for the Development of Innovative Technologies “IT Planet”. The competition aims at promoting system development and open source software.
Participants will be offered tasks related to programming, administration and use of the OpenScaler Linux distribution, compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The prize fund of the competition is one million rubles (1st place – 400 thousand rubles, 2nd place – 300 thousand rubles, 3rd place – 200 thousand rubles, 4th and 5th places – 50 thousand rubles).
Both professional engineers and programmers who actively use open source in their work, as well as amateurs, enthusiasts and students, at least 18 years old, can participate in the competition. studying system programming and administration based on Linux. - Until October 19, 2025, the first qualifying stage must be completed in the online testing format, during which up to 100 participants who showed the best results are determined.
- The second qualifying stage will take place from October 25 to 26, 2025, during which 10 finalists will be determined. The stage is carried out through a remote connection to virtual machines.
- On November 15 and 16, 2025, the final stage will take place, as a result of which 5 winners will be selected. Travel and accommodation are paid by the organizers.
OpenScaler is a localized edition of the openEuler distribution, created by Huawei based on the CentOS package base and transferred for joint development non-profit organization Open Atom Foundation.
