The Ubuntu Unity project cannot generate a new release 25.10 due to lack of developersable to fix critical problems with the Unity user environment that arise when using the package base Ubuntu 25.10. Ubuntu Unity users are not recommended to update their systems to the 25.10 branch or try to install packages with Unity on top of other editions of Ubuntu 25.10, as this may disrupt the system.
It is noted that the project now only has a forum and chat moderator who does not have technical skills, and the project leader, who was directly involved in development, has stepped aside from work after entering university. In 2022, the Ubuntu Unity distribution was given the status of an official edition of Ubuntu. The founder and key developer of Ubuntu Unity was an Indian teenager Rudra Saraswat, who was 12 years old when the project was founded in 2021.
