KDE Plasma 6.5 Desktop Environment Released

After four months of development published desktop environment release KDE Plasma 6.5. To evaluate the performance of new releases of KDE you can use assemblies from projects KDE Neon and openSUSE (Argon, based on openSUSE Leap, and Krypton, based on openSUSE Tumbleweed).

Basic changesin KDE Plasma 6.5:

  • When using the Breeze theme, windows are now drawn in KWin with rounded bottom corners (previously Only the upper corners were rounded, while the lower ones remained straight). The new window type is offered by default, but can be disabled in the settings if desired.

  • Added support for dynamic desktop wallpaper tables that change depending on the time of day. The idea is to automatically show light wallpapers during daylight hours, and dark ones during dark times. The interface for previewing dynamic wallpapers has been improved (wallpapers that change depending on the light or dark theme are now marked with a special icon and shown in two versions).

  • The initial system setup wizard has been implemented (KISS – KDE Initial System Setup), which complements the login welcome screen (Welcome Center). KDE Initial System Setup offers system operations that are performed before the first login after installation, such as creating a new user under which further work will be carried out, selecting the language and time zone, setting the keyboard layout and configuring network access.

  • To the Welcome Center application Added clarification on using keyboard shortcuts.
