Ubuntu Touch OTA-10: Focal Mobile Platform Launch

The latest firmware OTA-10 Focal (Over-The-Air) has been developed by UBports. The project, which took over the development of the Ubuntu Touch mobile platform after Canonical’s departure, has released the ninth version of Ubuntu Touch based on the Ubuntu 04.04 package base. Additionally, the project is also working on an experimental port of the desktop environment unity 8, now renamed as Lomiri.

The Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 Focal is set to roll out in the near future for devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F (X) Tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, OnePlus 5/5t/6T, OnePlus N10 5G/N100, SONY XPERIA X, VOLLAPHONE X/22/X23, Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC/X3, Xiaomi Poco M2 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro/Pro Max/9s, Volla Phone Quintus, Volla Tablet, Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen, and Xiaomi Redmi 9/9 Prime. This update will also include improvements for the device rabbit r1.

Some of the key changes in the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 Focal include:

  • Introduction of a new application for upgrading to the new branch based on Ubuntu 24.04.
  • Enhancements in the H.264 video codec calculations.
  • Update of Bluetooth stack Bluez to version 5.64.
  • Addition of initial Nix package manager support in lxc-Android-config.
  • Update of the Qtwebengine Browser engine to version 5.15.19+DFSG-1 from Debian Experimental repository.
  • Inclusion of support for UHD format.
