Recently, the release of the proprietary browser Vivaldi 7.6 took place, developed on the basis of the Chromium engine by former developers of the Opera Presto engine. Assemblies of Vivaldi can be downloaded for Linux, Windows, and macOS. Changes made to the Chromium code base enable the project to be spread under an open license. The browser interface is written in JavaScript using the React library, Node.js, Browserify, and various ready-made NPM modules. The implementation of the interface is available in the source texts but under a proprietary license.
The project aims to create a custom and functional browser that prioritizes user data privacy. Key features include a lock and advertising blocker, notice managers, history and bookmarks, private browsing mode, encrypted synchronization, tab grouping mode, side panel, configurator with numerous settings, horizontal display mode, and in testing mode, a built-in mail client, RSS reader, and calendar.
The new version of Vivaldi 7.6 introduces a series of improvements, including:
- The tab panel can now be customized similarly to other panels by adding buttons and controls. Users can drag the necessary buttons to the tab panel, turning off other panels and utilizing the entire screen space with a narrow top panel. This function is unofficially known as the “one-line panel.”
- A button has been added in the synchronized tabs and recently closed tabs sections to access all tabs, including open, unviewed, synchronized, duplicates, and recently closed tabs.
