Bcachefs Support Disabled in openSUSE Core Packages

OpenSUSE developers have announced that the file system Bcachefs will be disconnected from packages with the Linux kernel. This decision comes as Bcachefs is moved from being directly supported within the mainline kernel to an external support status. This means that changes for Bcachefs will no longer be included in the main composition of the kernel, while still maintaining the filesystem in the kernel’s code base. OpenSUSE developers have stated that they will not be including a distribution package with core patches from the Bcachefs project.

The removal of Bcachefs will begin with kernel version 6.17, where its status will change. However, support for Bcachefs will still be available in packages with kernel version 6.16. Users who require Bcachefs are advised to follow instructions to rebuild the kernel with patches from the Bcachefs developers. Once the status of BCACHEFS is updated in the main kernel, support for this filesystem in OpenSUSE will be reinstated.
