Sysvinit 3.15 Launches, Shifts to Codeberg Platform

A new version of the classical initialization system, Sysvinit 3.15, has been released. This system was widely used in Linux distributions prior to the introduction of Systemd and Upstart, and continues to be utilized in distributions such as Devuan, Slackware, Debian GNU/Hurd, and Antix. The code for Sysvinit is written in SI and distributed under the GPLV2 license. The versions of Sysvinit used in conjunction with the InSServ and Startpar utilities remain unchanged. The Insserv utility is designed to organize the dependencies between init scripts, while Startpar ensures the parallel launch of several scripts during system loading.

In this new version of Sysvinit, the changes focus on small enhancements and optimizations to speed up the execution of scripts. The project has also transitioned from hosting its code on GITHUB to Codeberg, an open-form joint development Forgegejo platform. This shift reflects the project’s commitment to open source collaboration.
