Google published the release of Web-browser Chrome 140. At the same time, a stable release of a free project Chromium, acting as the basis of Chrome. Chrome browser differs from Chromium by using Google logos, having a system for sending notifications in case of collapse, modules for playing video content (DRM), automatic installation of updates, Sandbox insulation, supply of Google API key, and transfer of RLZ parameters during searches. The Extended Stable branch, supported for 8 weeks, is available for those who need more time to update. The next issue of Chrome 141 is scheduled for September 30.
The main changes in Chrome 140:
- Enhance protection of movements between sites in the Incognito mode by hiding information about the user’s IP address in third-party contexts (e.g., for pages loaded through iframes). This hidden feature is used only for domains present in the Masked Domain List (MDL) and is implemented by sending requests through a Google proxy server. Hence, the site will see the incoming IP address as the proxy’s address, not the user’s.
- Implement selective information gathering about user IP addresses when the IP addresses pass through the browser of a transit proxy using the Print (Probabilistic Reelal Token) mechanism. PRT involves sending a header with an encrypted token that allows retrieval of a random sampling of real IP addresses of customers who accessed a given domain, without being linked to specific requests.
