In a surprising move, the source code of the game “Russian Roulette 2: Closed Planets” has been published, along with a set of gaming data, by one of the developers, Svyatoslav Obraztsov (Suavik). This three-dimensional first-person shooter game requires players to complete tasks for various warring factions, utilize different combat equipment, and navigate between worlds.
Developed by Logos and released in 1999 by Buka, the game’s code has been made public with the consent of the copyright holder under a specific license. This license allows for the publication and modification of the original program text and data, given that they were created by Logos.
The discovered archive containing the game’s initial codes was created around January 18, 1999, just two months prior to the game’s release. As a result, some script language functions are missing from the published code and the behavior may differ slightly. A reverse engineer, who received the code from Svyatoslav Samples, has plans to enhance, supplement, clean, and adjust the source codes in the near future. Currently, the assembly requires Turbo Assembler and Watcom C/C++, with support only for the Windows platform.
