The developers behind PUTTY have announced the release of version 0.82 of the popular client for SSH, Telnet, Rlogin, and Supdup protocols, designed for use on UNIX-like systems and Windows. PUTTY comes equipped with a built-in terminal emulator and has been made available under the MIT license. The initial texts of the project can be accessed here.
One of the main improvements in the new version is the enhanced support for UNICODE. Users can now utilize Unicode characters in various aspects such as usernames, passwords, file names, command parameters, and more, regardless of the encoding set in the operating system or PUTTY settings. This means that passwords can include special Unicode symbols that may not be present in the system’s active coding of symbols.
Additionally, version 0.82 introduces new features such as logging information about the local network connection socket, including the network port number. Users also have the option to disable the insert mode with the substitution of Escape-readings, a feature known as bracketed paste. Furthermore, the Pageant SSH-agent for UNIX systems now includes the “-Foreground” option, allowing users to prevent the process from running in the background mode.
