GNU Automake 1.18 Released: Assembly File Tools

The latest release of Automake, version 1.18, has been published. Automake is a set of utilities designed for the automatic generation of make files that adhere to the GNU project’s encoding standards. In this new version, several enhancements and additions have been made to improve functionality and compatibility.

  • Support for the programming language alGol 68 has been added, utilizing the compiler gnu Algol 68.
  • By default, the transition to the USTAR TAR archives format has been implemented, now supporting longer file names.
  • In the MDATE-SH script used in Texinfo assembly, the support for obtaining a date through the environment variable Source_Date_epoch has been added, replacing the use of file modification time.
  • An option has been added to “For TAP-Driver.sh“, allowing the addition of an arbitrary prefix at the beginning of each line in stderr.
  • Improvements have been made to the support for Perl in this latest release, enhancing compatibility and performance.
