Published the release of the mobile platform /e/os 3.0, focused on the confidentiality of user data. The platform is founded by Gaël Duval, the creator of the Mandrake Linux distribution. The project supports 221 smartphone models and offers firmware assembly for the most popular of them. Smartphones such as OnePlus, Fairphone, Teracube, and Pixel have devices distributed with pre-installed firmware/e/os under the brands of Murena for Murena Fairphone 4/5, Murena Teracube 2e, and Murena Pixel 5/7.
Firmware/e/os develops as a branch from the LineageOS platform (based on Android), with a focus on excluding telemetry transmission to Google servers and increasing user privacy. It blocks implicit sending of information, such as contacting Google servers for network availability checks, DNS resolution, and time determination.
The firmware includes a MicroG package providing alternatives to Google services, avoiding proprietary components. Location services through Wi-Fi and base stations are facilitated by UnifiedNLP, which can work with services like Beacondb, OpenWlanMap, OpenBmap, OpenCellid, Lacells.db, and others. The default search engine is Murena Find based on Qwant for anonymous queries.
Instead of Google NTP servers, the firmware synchronizes time with servers from the NTP Pool, and DNS servers used are those provided by the user’s current provider. The default web browser includes an ad block and anti-tracking scripts. For file and application data synchronization, a service compatible with
