Warzone 2100 Free Web Version Released

On the 20th anniversary of the first open release of the popular RTS game, Warzone 2100, a web version of the game has been introduced. This web edition of Warzone 2100 can now be accessed and played in any browser, thanks to its compatibility with webassembly and webgl 2 technologies. Players can even launch the game on iPad tablets and Android devices with larger screens, providing a convenient and accessible gaming experience.

The web version of Warzone 2100 offers a single-player mode that includes the original campaign and battles for players to enjoy. However, for those who prefer playing on stationary systems, the game developers are still distributing assemblies for Linux, Windows, MacOS, and FreeBSD. These stationary assemblies are known for their higher quality graphics, support for multiplayer gameplay, and the ability to use various additions and mods to enhance the gaming experience.

Originally developed by Pumpkin Studios and released in 1999, Warzone 2100 has come a long way since its inception. In 2004, the game’s initial texts were made open source under the GPLV2 license, paving the way for community contributions and enhancements. On June 11, 2005, the first open release of Warzone 2100 was officially launched to the public, marking a significant milestone in the game’s history.
