IceWM 3.8.0 Window Manager Released

The release of a lightweight window manager icewm 3.8.0 is now available. ICEWM offers full control through keyboard combinations, allows the use of virtual desktops, tasks and menu panels, and enables the grouping of windows using tabs. The window manager can be configured through a simple configuration file, and users have the option to apply themes. Built-in applets for monitoring CPU, memory, and traffic are provided, along with third-party GUI tools for desktop and menu customization. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLV2 license.

Changes in the new version include:

  • In the Themes menu, a window preview button has been added to demonstrate the style of icons for each theme.
  • Improved menu loading speed when using design themes.
  • Reduced CPU load when interacting with the memory and CPU usage graph widget.
  • Additional links to guidelines have been included in the Help menu.
  • Hotkeys are now converted to uppercase based on the current locality.
  • In the utilities iceh and icewmbg, a new random number generator has been implemented using “Arc4random_uniform()” instead of the “Rand()” function.
