Kubuntu Ends X11 Session Support in Install Packages

Developers of Kubuntu have reported that they will be terminating the provision of the KDE session based on the X-server in the basic environment. This change will take effect with the release of Kubuntu 25.10. Moving forward, only a Wayland session will be included in the assembly provided. If users wish to use the X-server session, they will need to manually install the Plasma-Session-X11 package from the repository. It’s important to note that support for launching X11 applications using XWayland will remain unchanged.

A similar decision to stop the supply of the GNOME session based on X11 had been previously made for the main assembly of Ubuntu Desktop. This shift in focus towards Wayland sessions reflects the evolving landscape and priorities within the Linux community.
