The development team behind the KDE Plasma Mobile platform recently provided an update on the progress of the project since the release of KDE PLASMA MOBILE 6.0 in March of last year. Users can download ready builds of KDE Plasma Mobile 6 from the test repository distribution postmarketos. Additionally, those interested can try out KDE Plasma Mobile using the Fedora Kde Plasma Mobile Spin assembly.
PLASMA MOBILE support is enabled by the modemanager telephone stack and Telepathy communication framework. The Kwin_Wayland composite server is used for graphics output, while Pulseaudio handles sound processing. Mobile versions of applications are being developed using KDE GEAR components. The application interface is built using a combination of mauikit components and the Kirigami framework from KDE Frameworks, which allows for the creation of universal interfaces suitable for smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
Various applications are included in the composition, such as kde connect for connecting the phone with the desktop, Okular document viewer, Vvave music player, Koko and Pix image viewers, Buho note-taking system, Calindori calendar-planner, Index file manager, Discover application manager, Spacebar SMS sending program, Plasma-phonebook address book, Plasma-dialer phone call interface, Plasma-angelfish browser, and Spectral messenger.
Notable changes in the latest update include the implementation of a search panel in the default home screen, touchpad control support, the option to block screen element layout editing, a button for accessing all wallpaper settings, a confirmation dialogue for folder deletion, and tactile feedback for various actions.
