Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Linux 9, offering architectures X86_64 and ARM64 (Aarch64) support. The operating system provides unlimited and free access to the YUM repository for binary packet updates (errata) and security fixes. Additionally, separate repositories with packages like Application Stream and CodeReady Builder are available for download.
Oracle Linux 9 includes the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel 8 (UEK 8) as its core, which is based on the Linux 6.12 kernel. This kernel is optimized for use with industrial software and Oracle hardware. The source code for the kernel, along with patches, can be found on the public GitHub repository. The UEK is installed by default and is positioned as an alternative to the standard RHEL kernel, offering features like DTRACE integration and improved BTRFS support.
