Linux Kernel Commit Swap Incident by CESC Cook

Linus Torvalds demanded from the administrator of Kernel.org immediately block the account of Caes Cook, the former chief system of Kernel.org and the leader of Ubuntu Security Team, accompanying 14 subsystems associated with security in the nucleus. Konstantin Ryabtsev, who responds to the work of the Kernel.org infrastructure performed blocking. The reason for the blocking was pull-poll to include 6.16 changes in the GIT-reos, in which information about the author’s authority was changed commitments.

In the supported Kes git-references there were fictitious changes, in the field of the author and the commit in which “Linus Torvalds” was indicated, but Linus did not add them. For example, under the name of Linus in the CESS branch there was commit, which repeated another commit in a Linus branch, but with another Hash SHA1. Both commits look the same, with the exception of information about the signature.

The changes did not look like an accidental mistake when performing the Git Rebase operation, as they contained incorrect information about the author of the commit. Linus Torvalds considered this a trace of potentially harmful activity and initiated the blocking of the reception of any changes from the Kes, until the causes of such manipulations and confirmation were clarified that the Caes system was not compromised.
