Slaris 11.4 SRU81 Released

Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 81 (Support Repository Update) has been released, bringing a range of significant changes and improvements to the Solaris 11.4 branches. To install the updates included in this new version, users can simply execute the ‘PKG Update’ command. Additionally, users can also take advantage of the free edition of Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment), which follows a continuous publication model for new versions.

Some of the key changes in this update include:

  • Added support for the CTF 3 debug format (Compact Type Format), which allows for compact storage of information about SI-types, function connections, and debugging symbols. This update also adds support for generating CTF (LD -z CTF) in the dynamic linker.
  • Upgraded the bootloader to GRUB 2.12 and SHIM 15.8.
  • Implemented improvements to the wait time for entry into the pam_unix_auth module and added automatic session unlock without passwords.
  • Enhanced comparison of virtual process identifiers (PID) 1 and 0 in non-global isolated zones with the Init and Zsched processes, along with ensuring system time synchronization during zone migrations.
  • Added configuration options to block ICMP packets with service unavailability messages.
  • Introduced the Getpeereid function to LIBC.
  • Supported installation archives compressed using USTAR, XUSTAR, and PAX when deploying isolated Solaris 10 zones.
  • Enhanced support for users with Root Fulfinials in Sulogin.
  • Updated PHP interpreter to the PHP 8.4 branch.
  • Added options to configure LDMD logs with ‘LDM SET-LOGCTL’ and improved ‘LDM List’ output with multi-column divisions.
  • Updated versions of various programs, including LLVM/Clang 19, Golang 1.23.8, Java 8u451, MySQL 8.0.41, Git 2.48.1, Ruby 3.1.7, Xorg-Server to 21.1.16, Imagemagick 7, OpenLDAP 2.6.9, GTK3 3.24.48, GTK4 4.14.5, Python 3.13.1, and Samba 4.21.3.
