In the code base for GNOME 49, new instruments will be formed based on the accepted Mutter SDK (Mutter Development Kit), which introduces a new way of interacting with the composite manager of MUTTER and the GNOME Shell. The Mutter SDK allows for launching an embedded Gnome Shell copy inside a GTK application, simplifying the testing of Mutter and Gnome Shell during the development process.
The invested specimens of Mutter and Gnome Shell output information to the virtual monitor attached to the current user’s session, displayed in the application window, and support the emulation of sensory screen events. Connecting a virtual monitor without creating a new session is achieved through the API for recording screencasts and working remotely with the desktop. Individual specimens of Mutter and Gnome Shell can be launched using the “-SSDK” option, with control possible using the d-bus API org.gnome.mutter.sdk.
