Opensearch 3.0 Launches, Forks Elasticsearch

Non-profit Opensearch Software Foundation, controlled by Linux Foundation, published the release of the project Opensearch 3.0, developing the fork for the search, analysis and storage of data elasticsearch and the web-interpretation kibana. Companies such as Amazon, Sap, Uber, Aryn, Atlassian, Canonical, Digitalocean and Netap take part in the development of the fork. The code spreads under the Apache 2.0 license.

Fork was created in 2021 in response to the transfer of the Elasticsearch project to a non-free SSPL license (Server Side Public License) and the cessation of the publication of changes under the old Apache 2.0 license. Despite the return of Elasticsearch to the use of a free license, the Opensearch project has not lost its relevance, since it continues to use the APACHE 2.0 permissive license instead of the AGPLV3 license, which was moved by Elasticsearch, as well as a number of specific superstructures that were previously delivered by Amazon in a separate Distributive open Distro for elasticsearch and replacing the paid components of Elasticsearch.

Opensearch includes the Opensearch storage and search engine, the Web-interface and the Opensearch Dashboards visualization environment, as well as a set of additions for machine learning, support for SQL, generating notifications, cluster performance diagnostics, encryption of traffic, delimitation (RBAC), authentication through Active Directory, Kerberos, Saml and Openid, implementing a single entry point (SSO) and conducting a detailed log for an audit.

Among changes in OpensEarch 3.0:

  • A vector engine has been added, which can be used to store
/Reports, release notes, official announcements.
