Bleachbit 5.0.0 Released: Free Up Disk Space

The application Bleachbit released version 5.0.0, which aims to free up disk space by removing unnecessary files. Users are provided with a list of components recommended for removal, with the option to exclude certain items. The program offers both console and graphical interfaces and is compatible with Linux and Windows operating systems. Written in Python using pygtk, Bleachbit is distributed under the GPLV3 license, with ready-made packages available for popular Linux distributions.

Bleachbit enables users to clean cache, logs, and temporary files from various applications, delete unused locales and residual files from RPM and DEB packages, optimize internal databases, mail clients, and package managers. The program also supports the Schroeder mode, which allows for the overwrite of individual files or all free space on a drive to prevent the recovery of deleted files.

The latest update offers the option to choose the language settings for the interface and enhances performance in multi-user systems. Cleaning capabilities have been expanded to include Librewolf, Microsoft Edge, GEARY, and temporary files in Bash on the Linux platform. Improvements have been made to logs after rotation and damaged .desktop files. Additionally, finished packages are now available for Fedora 41/42, Centos 9, and Ubuntu 24.10/25.04. Support for Windows XP and Windows 7 has been discontinued, with a new design theme introduced for Windows 10.
