Proxmox VE 9.0 Launches for Virtual Server Management

Proxmox Virtual Environment 9.0 has been published, a specialized Linux distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It is aimed at the deployment and maintenance of virtual servers using LXC and KVM, and can act as a replacement for products such as VMware VSPhere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Hypervisor. The size of the installation ISO image is 1.6 GB.

Proxmox VE provides a way to expand the fully completed system of industrial-level virtual servers with a web interface management designed to manage hundreds or even thousands of virtual machines. The distribution includes built-in tools for organizing backups for the virtual environment and clustering support available out of the box, including the ability to migrate the virtual environment from one node to another without downtime. Some features of the web interface include support for a secure VNC console, access to all available objects (VM, storage, nodes, etc.) based on roles, and support for various authentication mechanisms (MS ADS, LDAP, Linux PAM, Proxmox VE Authentication).

In the new release:

  • Moved to the package base of the Debian 13 distribution, expected to be released on August 9. The Linux 6.14 kernel is used by default. Updated versions of QEMU 10.0.2, LXC 6.0.4, OpenZFS 2.3.3, and Ceph Squid 19.2.3.
  • A new web interface for mobile devices has been introduced, written in the Rust language using the Yew web framework. This interface is automatically used when accessing from mobile devices instead of the standard Proxmox VE GUI and allows quick assessment of guest systems, tasks, storages, and other resources. Through the mobile web interface, basic settings can be changed and typical operations such as launching and stopping virtual machines can be performed.
