EasyOS 7.0 Released by Puppy Linux Creator

Barry Kauler Publishes EasyOS 7.0 Distribution

Barry Kauler, the founder of the Puppy Linux project, recently published EasyOS 7.0. This distribution combines Puppy Linux technology with container insulation to launch system components. Distribution control is managed through a set of graphic configurators developed by the project. The size of the loading image is 1 GB and can be accessed here.

Key features of the distribution include:

  • Each application and desktop can be launched in separate containers using Easy Containers for isolation.
  • The system operates with Root rights by default, with privileges discharged when starting each application, as EasyOS is designed as a Live system for one user.
  • EasyOS can be installed in a separate subdirectory and coexist with other data on the drive.
  • Meta-packages in SFS format can be installed, similar to AppImage, Snap, and Flatpak.
  • System updates are done atomically and support rollback in case of issues post-update.
  • There is a RAM launch mode where the system is copied into memory and runs without disk access.
  • The desktop is based on the JWM window and the ROX file manager.
  • Various applications are included in the distribution, such as Firefox, LibreOffice, VLC, GIMP, and others.
  • An application called easyShare is provided for file exchange and printer sharing.
