Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 84, the latest Support Repository Update, has been released with a range of significant changes and improvements for Solaris branches 11.4. To install the updates provided in the package, users can simply execute the ‘PKG Update’ command. Additionally, users can take advantage of the free edition of Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment), which follows a continuous model of releasing new versions.
Some of the key enhancements included in the update are:
- The addition of the “-r” option to the Format utility, allowing for a comprehensive survey of parameters for all devices in the /DEV directory without relying on the DeV_info cache. This can be particularly useful in cluster configurations with shared disks where parameters may change across nodes.
- The inclusion of the “-n” and “-q” options for scripting in non-interactive mode. The “-n” option displays a list of disks and their attributes, while the “-q” option provides limited information on disk lists and parameters.
- Improved behavior of the FMTHARD utility, which now closely resembles the Format utility when recording disk labels in various scenarios such as admonished FS, entry into ZFS Pool, and the presence of SVM or VXVM Podelov.
- The implementation of ICEV1 (Internet Key Exchange Version 1) has been separated into a distinct package (PKG:/System/Network/IKE-V1) and is scheduled for removal in future releases, with support for only IKEV2 in the PKG:/System/Network/Ike package.
- The outdated IPQOS network classification system (PKG: // SOLARIS/SYSTEM/NETWORK/IPQOS) is set for removal, and users are recommended to utilize utilities like Dladm, DLSTAT, FLOWADM, and FlowStat for traffic reservation.
- The SSTORE utility now allows users to trigger a notification of free space in the /TMP section when it exceeds 95% capacity or 10GB using the command “ldm set-vdisk timeout=’N”.
