A new release of the FreedomBox Trixie has been announced, which has been transitioned to the DEBIAN 13 package base. The system aims to make it easy for users to deploy personal servers to protect their data and quickly set up typical services for personal use on their own equipment. All development projects related to FreedomBox are now accessible through the Debian repositories.
The installation image for FreedomBox has been created for the x86_64 architecture, as the production of I386 assemblies has been discontinued. Users also have the option to create their own image using the special installer Freedom-Maker and the configurator FreedomBox-Setup.
The components available on FreedomBox include a VPN for local network access, the Home Assistant home automation platform, Postfix mail server with RoundCube, file exchange system Bepasty, Coturn VoIP server, Bittorrent Web clients Deluge and Transmission, Jabber server Ejabberd, GITWEB Git interface, gateways for working via I2P and Tor, video chat Janus, voice chat Mumble, Synapse Matrix server, cloud storage system Nextcloud, mini streaming broadcast, Borg backup storage, filtering proxy Privoxy, Samba file server, Radicale calendar planner, Zoph photo manager, various Wiki engines, and WordPress. The project can also be utilized as a home router, inter-message screen, and proxy for filtering advertising and trackers.

FreedomBox was founded by Eben Moglen, a professor of law at Columbia University specializing in legal support for the Free Software Foundation. The project was initiated to create cost-effective personal servers with low energy consumption, enabling users to store their personal data securely and communicate safely without relying on external centralized services.
