Modicia 6.12.41: New Linux for Multimedia Creators

The distribution Modicia 6.12.41 has been released, based on the package base of Debian and offering a selection of applications for musicians, designers, and video creators. The user environment is built using the Cinnamon desktop environment. The project supports an application catalog with about 1000 packages. The size of the ISO image is 4.7 GB (x86_64) and is capable of being launched in Live-mode.

The distribution, which has been in development since 1998, is notable for default high-performance CPU mode (Turbo Boost) and offers a real-time kernel option. Wine is used to run multimedia programs collected for Windows. Zram (RAM-disk with compression) is utilized to compress data stored in RAM, reducing VM.SWAPPINESS from 60 to 10.

In the new version:

  • Temporary files are now located in TMPFS, speeding up system operations such as program installations and updates.
  • Linux 6.12.41 core includes Realtime-mode by default.
  • The package manager Nala, based on Libapt, is used to manage default packages with support for Packet packing loading.
  • The Zstandard format is now supported.
  • New applications, such as the TILIX terminal emulator, have been added.
  • An interface for selecting and updating kernel packages has been implemented, along with GPU identification and installation of NVIDIA drivers.
  • A library with 2500 fonts is included.
  • The video editor Kdenlive now has a LUTS color control tool (LOOK UP Tables) and pre-installed plugin selection, as well as Cinnamon 6.4.10 stylized for MacOS. Support for Wayland has been improved, optimizing window management functions and multitasking.
