VK has recently released a version of their messenger, max, for the Linux platform. The new version is available in three different packages: RPM (79 MB), Deb (92 MB), and as a self-sufficient image in Appimage (114 MB), which allows users to launch the messenger without the need for installation. This version for Linux is built on the Electron platform, utilizing the Chromium browser engine.
The messenger requires several compulsory dependencies to function, including Libgtk, Libnotify, Libx, Libxtst, XDG-UTILS, LIBATSPI, LIBUID, libuuid, and libuuid. Additionally, Libsecret is necessary for secure operations. To display indicators in the system tray, the messenger uses LibAppindicator. The messenger is compatible with environments based on both X11 and Wayland. The RPM package is specifically designed for the alma Linux distribution 8.x.
