4Mlinux has released version 49.0, a minimalistic user distribution that stands on its own without branching from other projects. It utilizes a graphic environment based on the window manager jwm. The 4Mlinux distribution can serve various purposes including playing multimedia files, solving user problems, recovering from failures, and hosting mini-servers. You can download the prepared live-image (x86_64, 1.7 GB) with a graphic environment, or a console-only assembly (x86_64, 16.2 MB).
The new version includes:
- Updated versions of packages: Linux kernel 6.12.39, Busybox 1.37.0, Mesa 25.1.0, Wine 10.11, Perl 5.40.2, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.13.3, Ruby 3.4.3.
- Updated user applications: Libreoffice 25.2, Abiword 3.0.6, Gimp 3.1.2, Gnumeric 1.12.59, Firefox 140, Chrome 138, Thunderbird 140, Audacious 4.4.2, VLC 3.0.21, SMPLAYER 25.6.0.
- Support for installation on sections with the BCACHEFS file system.
- Improved interaction with mobile devices using PTP/MTP and Bluetooth protocols.
- The 4mlinux Gamepack now includes Brutal Chess and the Stella package with the ATARI 2600 VCS emulator.
- Additional features such as Aqualung Music player, Googles music collection manager, multimedia format converter QWINFF, and FastFetch monitoring utility.
- Added extensions with GIMP4, GNUPLOT, and REZOUND sound editor.
- LiveCD installations now include support for Intel VAPPI.
