NIXOS Mainer Rejects Xlibre Support

During discussions about adding Xlibre support to NIXOS, concerns were raised about supplying alternative packages with the X-server. The possible changes in ABI XLIBRA were cited as reasons, along with the increased workload on the Nixos Mainers who would have to test two server options. Difficulties with interactions with those responsible for Xlibre, whose political views frequently dominated technical discussions more than necessary, were also mentioned. Furthermore, the low quality of the changes that appeared in the fork was highlighted.

To address this issue, NIXOS users are encouraged to utilize the overwhelming mechanism, allowing them to replace the original X.org Server with any other package, including Xlibre. However, users assume responsibility for resolving any issues that may arise on their systems. Information about the support status of Xlibre in other distributions can be found on the page “are we xlibre yet”, which is regularly updated by the authors of the Fork.
