Thunderbird Launches Mail Client Version 140

Recently, Thunderbird unveiled the latest release of its email client, Thunderbird 140. Developed by community efforts and built on Mozilla technology, Thunderbird 140 is based on the code base of the ESR release of Firefox 140 and falls under the category of versions with long term support, receiving updates throughout the year.

The key changes in Thunderbird 140 include:

  • Improved dark design mode implementation, with the integration of Dark Reader to automatically switch to a dark theme for message content with a light background.
  • Added settings for global control of message sorting and threading mode in all Thunderbird components, as well as the ability to set the number of columns in Cards View.
  • Enhanced notification for new mail, introducing buttons for marking as read, marking as spam, starring, archiving, or deleting messages. Selective management policy for enterprises is also implemented, with notifications utilizing native notification mechanisms for Linux, MacOS, and Windows.
  • Inclusion of the Account Hub interface by default, allowing users to manage multiple accounts for different email services.
  • Implemented support for manually sorting folders in the side panel.
  • Experimental support for adding a Microsoft Exchange account from Thunderbird.
  • Added feature to generate a QR code for quick transfer of account settings to the mobile Android version of Thunderbird.
  • Enabled support for horizontal scrolling in the message list interface with the addition of mail.phreadpane.table.horizontal_scroll adjustment.
  • Added message handling capabilities in the context menu of the mail folder list panel.
