KDE Project Unveils Proprietary Virtual Keyboard

Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published the next report on development KDE. The report mentions development the KDE project of the new screen keyboard plasma-keyboard, which is developing a virtual keyboard maliit used now on mobile devices and systems with sensory screens.

Plasma-Keyboard is based on the code of the QT screen keyboard Qt Virtual Keyboard, expanded by the capabilities for integration with the Plasma desktop and solving some problems with ease of use. Recent changes include the implementation of the “Breeze” keyboard style resembling the design of the Maliit keyboard, and the use of a new matching algorithm to improve keyboard display on narrow screens.




Among the recent changes in the code base for the future release of KDE Plasma 6.5:

  • In the content preview window of folders on the desktop, empty folders now have a placeholder message indicating the absence of elements, preventing confusion from an empty interface.
