Dragonfly BSD 6.4.1, the latest version of the operating system originally created in 2003 as an alternative development of FreeBSD 4.X, has been released after two and a half years since the previous release 6.4. Known for its features such as a distributed version of the Hammer filesystem, support for loading system “virtual” kernels as user processes, caching data and meta-data on SSD drives, handling optional symbolic links, freezing file states on disk, and a hybrid kernel using Lightless flows (lwkt).
The release of Dragonfly BSD 6.4.1 focuses on bug fixes, addressing accumulated errors from the previous version. One notable fix includes resolving an issue with the PKG package manager that was causing DF-LATETEST.CONF configuration files to be deleted during updates. Additionally, a memory leak in the IDE/Nata driver has been fixed to prevent the kernel from entering a Panic state. Other fixes include resolving issues specific to systems using UEFI and updating the CA_ROOT_NSS package to address problems with PKG working with the Avalon repository via https.
