The results of the annual elections of the Debian project leader have been announced. In the vote, 387 developers participated, which is 35.1% of all eligible voters. This year, four candidates ran for the post of leader, with Andreas Tille emerging victorious and being re-elected for a second term. Andreas Tille, who has been involved in Debian for 26 years, is known for his work on packages and the Debian Med project, which focuses on optimizing issues related to medicine and biological research. He is also active in mentoring new developers and currently maintains 1627 packages, making him the top contributor in the project.
The other candidates for the leader of the leader position were:
- Dzhanfranko Kostaman (gianfranco costamagna) – a developer of Debian since 2015 and Ubuntu since 2016, with plans to enhance cooperation between the Debian and Ubuntu communities, streamline package maintenance processes, and offer support for specific architectures like RISCV64 and Loong64.
- Schruti Changran (Sruthi Chandran) – a Debian contributor from India since 2016, maintaining 198 packages including libraries for Ruby, Node.js, and Go, as well as font packages. Her leadership goals revolved around promoting diversity within the community.
- Julian Andres Claude (Julian Andres Klode) – a long-time participant in the project since 2008, known for his work on the APT package manager. Employed at Canonical and involved in Ubuntu development, his leadership plans included making Debian more appealing to users transitioning from other operating systems, reforming project management, and establishing an advisory council for the DPL position.
