POLICE DETAIN HACKERS IN IT DATA THEFT

In Rostov-on-Don and Sochi, several individuals have been detained on suspicion of stealing a database containing personal information of employees from a top IT company. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has stated that these stolen data were being offered for sale on the Darknet. The Investigative Committee of Moscow has reported the arrest of three men born in 1987, 1989, and 1999, who are accused of illegally obtaining and disclosing commercial secrets.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspects allegedly copied over 600 thousand records from the company’s database. The investigation suggests that up until November 14, 2023, the individuals conspired in the Rostov region with the aim of profiting personally. They not only stole a commercial secret but also attempted to sell it by advertising it online.

Throughout the investigation, raids were conducted in Moscow, the Rostov Region, and the Krasnodar Territory. The suspects’ computers, external storage devices, mobile phones, SIM cards, and other relevant items were confiscated during the operation. The apprehensions were executed by specialized units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including those dedicated to combating the illegal use of information technology.

A criminal case has been initiated in this matter for offenses related to unauthorized access to computer information and the illicit acquisition of commercial secrets. The accused individuals have been released pending further investigation under the condition of good conduct.
