FIN7 Strikes Auto Industry with Advanced Attack Chain, Introduces Backdor Anunak

A large American automaker was recently revealed to be the victim of a targeted cyber attack by a hacker group. Law enforcement officials disclosed that from 2013 to 2018, the group known as FIN7 targeted over 100 companies and organizations in the United States, breaching thousands of systems.

Reports indicate that the hackers stole more than 15 million payment cards in the U.S., compromising over 6,500 point-of-sale (POS) terminals. The stolen data was then reportedly sold on the darknet to third parties. Among the companies affected by the cyber attack are well-known names such as Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chili’s, Arby’s, Red Robin, and Jason’s Deli.
