At each academic year its share of crowded amphitheatres broadcast on the television news. That of September should not escape it. The symbolic bar of the three million students in France will be crossed. At the start of the 2021-2022 school year, the Ministry of Higher Education already identified 2.97 million, with a “sensitive increase” of 2.5 %, or 73,000 new registered, according to a note from the ministry published in late July 2022. In reality, we are witnessing a constant increase since 2008. Explanations: demographic growth of the 2000s and the net increase in the number of graduates at dawn of the 2020s. It remains that if the university continues to absorb the majority of students , business schools and engineering training are experiencing a much greater progression of their workforce.

With 25 % of higher education students, private education is experiencing continuous development in all academic regions, overseas. Just for the year 2021-2022, the private sector recorded an increase of 10 %. For comparison, that of the perimeter of universities is only 0.4 %, or 7,000 additional students for a total of 1.65 million. Where the private sector knows very little decline, the public share drops in certain territories, especially in the academies of Toulouse and Nancy-Metz (-3.1 %). In addition, some public sector courses display frequentations at half mast. The number of students preparing a university technology diploma (DUT) within the university falls by around 5 %, as well as the preparatory classes for the grandes écoles ( – 1.8 %). The student population also sulks BTS in school careers ( – 5.7 %), preferring them to apprenticeship paths, whose workforce jumped 43.2 % in one year. Note that these apprentices are mainly registered in private education, up to 77.5 %.

In some academies, the private share is particularly important, up to 36 %. The Nantes Academy comes first, followed closely by Paris and Lyon. “We have developed a lot,” we recognize at Audencia, founded in 1900 in the prefecture of the Pays de la Loire. At the start of the 2021-2022 school year, the business school experienced an increase in its workforce in all its training. Among them, the sectors welcoming apprentices, boosted since the liberalization of learning from the 2018 professional future law. The number of candidates is also growing, in parallel with the opening of new programs and campuses, usual proofs of the good health of private establishments.
