GitHub published a report on locks for first half of 2022

github published a report that reflects notifications of violations intellectual property and publication of illegal contents, received for the first half of 2022. Previously, such reports were published annually, but now GitHub has switched to disclosure of information once every six months. In accordance with the US Authority Law in the USA (DMCA, Digital Millennium Copyright Act), in the first half of 2022, Github received 1200 requirements on locking. The owners of the repositories received 20 refutations for unlawful blocking.

Due to the receipt of complaints about violations of the conditions of use of the service not related to DMCA, GitHub hidden 44913 accounts, of which 356 were subsequently restored. Blocking access to the owner of the account was undertaken in 268 cases (16 accounts were then unlocked). For 2617 accounts, both blocking and hidden were simultaneously applied (then 54 accounts were restored). In the context of the projects, 1766 projects were disabled and only 4 were returned.

GitHub also received 212 requests for user data disclosure (for comparison for the first half of 2021, 172 requests were received). 122 such requests were sent in the form of court summons (118 criminal cases and 4 civilians), 56 – judicial decisions and 10 orders for a search. 98.1% of requests were sent by law enforcement agencies, and 1.9% in civil lawsuits. Satisfied 169 requests from 212, as a result of which information about 1361 accounts were disclosed.
Users were notified of the disclosure of their data only 3 times, since the remaining 166 queries were provided with a non -disclosure of information ( gag order ) .

The public services received three requirements Removing content due to violations of local legislation, Two of which were received from Russia and one of Australia. Requests from Russia were sent Roskomnadzor and are associated with the locking of the ONLINE casino.
