But his model, based on the possibility for women to give birth in a physiological way, requires a permanent presence of midwives during childbirth, an approach incompatible with the profitability requirements of the ARS. “It is an interesting project, but the cost of childbirth is twice higher. It breaks equity with women on the rest of the territory,” argues an elder from ARS. In 2021, 1,107 women gave birth to it, and 600 voluntary pregnancy interruptions were practiced there.
Between Ars Ile-de-France and maternity, relationships have always been complicated.
